Why Come?

To make a difference

The Listening Summit is an opportunity to contribute to healing the divisions in the society and to build tolerance, understanding and acceptance of people with diverse views.

To improve your relationships

Have you fallen out with people due to differing opinions? The Listening Summit will help you build the capacity to relate to the person rather than the opinion. Once you can deal with the difference without having to put a person in a category or type, which is to “other” them, then there will be much less need to avoid them.

And you might hear what they are actually saying, rather than relate to them through the lens of what you already believe they are saying.

Improve Listening Skills

Have you ever misunderstood someone? Have you ever been misunderstood?

The main barriers to Listening to someone are assuming you already know what the person is saying due to the idea you have of them and getting reactive about what is being said.

Other ways we do bad listening are:

  • Waiting for your turn to speak
  • Assuming you already know what they’re going to say
  • Distracted listening – the myth of multitasking
  • Predatory listening – listening for a particular issue only

To build Capacity

Capacity is the ability to hold complexity, charge, difference or discomfort.

We build Capacity in a number of ways. Resilience is closely related to Capacity. Practicing Deep Listening alone builds the capacity to Listen deeply.

In this short clip, Neilon gives a brief overview of Capacity – click here

To be less reactive

The closer we are to our limits of Capacity, the more reactive we are likely to be. The more Charge we carry, the more Reactive we are likely to be. Paying attention to the sensations in the body is the key to catching and regulating the build up of Charge. Once we are in a Reactive state, the ability to Choose, respond, rationalise and connect is out of the window.

To evolve

The Listening Summit is an opportunity to contribute to healing the divisions in the society and to build tolerance, understanding and acceptance of people with diverse views.

Building the capacity for tolerance, understanding and acceptance of other people allows us to access new realms of wisdom which will engender evolution of Self as well as those connected with oneself.

Connection with other humans

Connect with other people that care about the world and wish to make a difference.

Why do we need Deep Listening?

We are living in a time of crisis, exacerbated by an increasing inability to have authentic, civilised conversations with those that disagree with us. Polarisation and division are everywhere; within Family,  friends, society, and ultimately, Self.

Too often, if you don’t agree with someone, you become the enemy. This is a disaster for all of us.

Ultimately Deep Listening is a commitment to really listening and hearing what someone is trying to say. Not just to the words. Too often we don’t listen, we are only waiting for a gap in the conversation to jump in and voice our criticism or opinion. This leads to misunderstandings, arguments, sadness, mistrust, violence….

The Listening Summit offers a chance to practise Embodied Listening/Deep Listening, one of the deepest and most powerful practices available.

Participants will be invited for their diverse and passionate views. No debating, no personal attacks nor critical feedback, only acknowledgments and recognition of one’s own sensations.
